Baby Connie’s newborn lifestyle photoshoot
It was an absolute delight to carry out baby Connie’s newborn lifestyle photoshoot earlier this spring. She was less than two weeks old and was in that adorable snoozy phase.
We used inspiration from her bigger sister’s newborn lifestyle photoshoot so that her proud mummy and daddy had a lovely keepsake record of both their girls at a similar age. This time, though, we were able to get big sister Mabel involved. And what a cutie Mable is!
Using the family home as a backdrop proved useful in keeping everyone really relaxed, it’s something I often recommend as it provides a really natural and familiar setting, which is especially important with little ones.
As well as the traditional hand and feet type newborn lifestyle shots, we also got the family together on the sofa and even included the family’s fur baby!
One of my favourites from the shoot was of baby Connie yawning. It’s clearly a hard life being a snuggly newborn. I also love the photos of Mabel snuggling up to her teddy bear.
Squishy flower pot babies
I’m often asked if I do the more posed/ dressed up newborn photoshoots as there’s lots of demand for it. I affectionately refer to them as the ‘squishy flower pot newborn shoots’ in reference to Anne Geddes.
The simple answer is I don’t offer this.
Why?
I’ve tried it and I don’t enjoy it. If I don’t enjoy it then I’m not relaxed and neither are my clients, so the photographs never come out quite as they should. I’m not saying I’ll never do it, it’s a goal of mine to become more relaxed and enjoy this style of photography. So maybe one day I’ll be dressing babies up as flowers and propping them up in flower pots, but for now I’m savouring the joy and honour of offering newborn lifestyle photoshoots instead.
